WAUSAU – The Marshfield girls basketball team won its third straight game, keeping pace for the top spot in the Wisconsin Valley Conference with a 69-39 win at Wausau East on Tuesday.

The Tigers improve to 14-4 and 9-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. They remain tied with Stevens Point, a 43-24 winner over Merrill on Tuesday, for the conference lead with two games remaining. Marshfield is trying to win its fifth straight WVC title.

Taylor Varsho scored 16 points to lead four Tigers in double figures.

Tiffany Stargardt added 14 points and 10 rebounds, Courtney Bauer scored a season-high 12 points nad Ellie Fehrenbach added 10 points and seven rebounds as Marshfield dominated the inside. Marshfield held a 32-21 rebounding advantage, which included 13 offensive rebounds.

Varsho now stands just 19 points shy of breaking Carlin McClary’s all-time school scoring mark of 1,240 points set from 1975-78.

Marshfield is back in action Thursday with a nonconference game at home against Altoona.
