MADISON – Marshfield senior Aaron Scheets hoped to improve on last year’s time and place at the WIAA State Boys Swimming Championships.

He did shave a little off his previous time, but ended up one spot further down in the standings after swimming the 100-meter backstroke in 56.64 seconds and finished in 22nd place among the 24 swimmers in the event.

Scheets finished 21st last year in the same event, swimming in 56.78 seconds.

Austin Byrd of Chippewa Falls/McDonell won the event with a time of 49.88 seconds, missing the state record by just 0.15 seconds.

Scheets, a senior, wraps up his career for Marshfield after gaining co-Wisconsin Valley Conference swimmer of the year honors.
