COLBY – The Spencer girls basketball team lost to Colby twice during the regular season in Cloverbelt Conference East Division play, but the Rockets came through when it mattered the most.
The Rockets used a 16-6 third-quarter run to erase a halftime deficit and went on to beat Colby 45-38 in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal on Friday night at Colby High School.
Tara Matter scored 17 points and Krystal Weier had 15 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Rockets (18-6).
Spencer moves on to a Division 4 regional final Saturday at Eau Claire Regis (21-2). Regis roughed up Athens 80-19 on Friday.
Colby led 17-12 at halftime before Spencer used a big third quarter to take a 28-23 lead. The Rockets held off the Hornets with a 17-15 fourth quarter.
Corrine Meacham had 11 points and Sarah Gamillo added 10 points and seven rebounds for Colby (14-9).
