WAUSAU – The Marshfield softball team finally cracked the win column Tuesday, routing Wausau East 12-2 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game.

The Tigers scored a pair of runs in the first inning and three more in the second to set the tone early.

Marshfield ended up with two more three-run innings and cracked 15 hits in the victory.

“We have been playing fairly well and just didn’t get the bats going,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “Our hitting definitely stood out tonight. We got some runs right off the bat and our pitching held up well again tonight.”

Marshfield improves to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the WVC, while East falls to 1-2 and 0-2 in the Valley.

Autumn Slowiak went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, and Taylor Hasz and Sara Sturomski each had two hits for Marshfield. Hasz knocked in a pair with two doubles.

Caitlin Kozik earned the win for the Tigers, striking out three and allowing just four hits in six innings.

The Tigers host the Marshfield Invitational on Saturday with Spencer, Tomahawk and La Crosse Logan coming to the Marshfield Fairgrounds. Games begin at 9:30 a.m.
