SHAWANO – The three members of the Auburndale wrestling team at the WIAA Division 3 sectional at Shawano High School had a rough go of it on Saturday.
Regional champion Clint Moschinski and runner-ups Cody Kundinger and Dave Altmann failed to finish in the top three and did not qualify for the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament, which will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Moscinski pinned his first opponent at 152 pounds, Cole Dollar of Florence, before losing in the semifinals to Shawn Oestreich of Peshtigo 10-4. In the wrestlebacks, Moscinski dropped a major decision to Justin Schmitz of Brillion, finishing his season with a 24-18 record.
Kundinger lost his first two matches at 119 pounds, falling to eventual sectional champion Cody Baker of Coleman 3-0 in the first round and 3-2 to Brock Kasten of Brillion in the wrestleback bracket.
Altmann pinned Danny Miller of Lena/St. Thomas Academy in 3:33 to win his first-round match at 285 pounds, before being pinning by eventual champ Jordan Zeitler at 1:20 in the semifinals. Altmann lost his first wrestleback to Jed Petrie of Brillion 5-3 to finish his senior season at 33-13.
