SPENCER – The Spencer softball team came back from a devastating late loss on Tuesday to pummel Loyal 15-5 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Thursday.
The Rockets, trailing 3-1 after 1½ innings, scored nine runs in the bottom of the second to pull away.
Spencer freshman outfielder Marisa Johnson robbed Melany Gregorich of a grand slam home run in the top of the third as she made a running catch and crashed through the portable fence for the final out of the inning.
Spencer (9-3, 5-2 Cloverbelt East) finished off the game in six innings via the 10-run rule with a pair of runs.
Eight different Rockets combined for 10 hits, and Spencer added 11 walks in the win.
Sam Nikolay and Krystal Weier each went 2-for-3 for Spencer.
The Rockets host first-place Neillsville on Friday.
