Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team’s rally falls just short in loss at Augusta

AUGUSTA – Augusta used a four-run fifth inning to open up a big lead, then held off a late rally by Marshfield Columbus Catholic to beat the Dons 8-6 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Tuesday.

Augusta led 4-3 before scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth to surge ahead. Columbus scored three runs in the top of the seventh but the rally was halted.

Brandon Nikolai, Pat Sullivan and Bryce DeSmet each had two hits for the Dons, who fall to 4-10 overall and 4-8 in the conference after losing for the fifth time in their last six games.

Columbus hosts Spencer on Thursday.
