AUGUSTA – Augusta used an 11-run second inning in Game 1 and scored multiple runs in Game 2 to sweep a doubleheader from Marshfield Columbus Catholic 15-4 and 25-14 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division matchup Tuesday.
Columbus tied the first game at 3-3 in the top of the second before the Beavers erupted for the huge 11-run inning and ended up finishing the game in five innings via the 10-run rule.
Augusta scored seven runs in the first inning of Game 2 and led 15-1 before the Dons rallied for nine runs in the bottom of the third,
The Beavers didn’t let up, however, and scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, and added four more in the seventh to finish off the win and improve to 9-6 and 9-3 in the conference.
Columbus is still searching for its first win as it falls to 0-11 overall and in the Cloverbelt East.
Columbus hosts Owen-Withee on Friday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.
