WAUSAU – Marshfield scored five runs in the first inning and held off Wausau East late to defeat the Lumberjacks 8-6 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference baseball game Wednesday at East High School. The game was rained out Tuesday and rescheduled for Wednesday.
With the win, the Tigers improve to 12-5 overall and keep pace with Stevens Point for first place in the WVC with a 7-1 record.
Austin Littmann had a pair of doubles, Bo Howard had two hits and Daulton Varsho had a single and smashed a triple to lead Marshfield’s offense.
Howard also picked up the win on the mound, with Littmann pitching a scoreless seventh inning to grab the save.
The Tigers play a nonconference doubleheader at Middleton on Saturday and return to Wisconsin Valley Conference action with road games at Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday and at D.C. Everest on May 17. The Tigers close out the season with five home games between May 18 and May 24, including a matchup with Stevens Point on May 22 at Jack Hackman Field.
