MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys golf team couldn’t take advantage of playing on its home course and shot a 341 to finish fourth at the fifth leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament on Friday at Riveredge Golf Course.
Stevens Point won the meet and have captured first place in all five portions of the meet thus far. The Panthers hot a 319 to beat D.C. Everest by 18 and Wisconsin Rapids by 19. The Tigers finished three behind Rapids.
Craig Serchen tied for eighth with an 83 and Brandon Brown tied for 13th with an 85 to lead Marshfield. Michael Josephson had an 86, Kyle Hoffman shot an 87 and Josh Berres fired a 90 to round out the scoring for the Tigers.
Marshfield remains in third in the overall team standings.
Matt Sandquist of Wausau West and Larry Wetzel of D.C. Everest tied for medalist honors with four-over par 76s. Sandquist bolstered his lead in the individual standings to three points over Stevens Point’s Ryan Hofmeister, who finished fourth Friday with a 79.
The tournament wraps up next week with meets at Wausau East on Tuesday and D.C. Everest on May 18.
Marshfield will compete at the Merrill Invitational on Saturday.
