SPENCER – Spencer routed Prentice 21-5 and beat Rib Lake 13-7 in nine innings to capture the Spencer Softball Tournament on Saturday at SPREC Field.

Marisa Johnson and Tynae Phillips combined on a five-inning one-hitter for the Rockets in the win over Prentice.

The Buccaneers scored five runs in the second before Spencer stormed back to scored seven in the bottom of the inning and 12 more in the fourth to win going away.

Johnson and Phillips combined for 15 walks, but Spencer had 21 walks of its own in the victory.

Krystal Weier went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and six other Rockets scored two runs or more.

Against Rib Lake, the Rockets pulled out a 6-0 lead before the Redmen pulled even with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. After three scoreless innings, Spencer scored six times in the top of the ninth to win it.

Dani Johnson went 5-for-7 with three runs scored, Paige Johnson added two doubles and a single and scored three times, and Courtney Schulz had two hits and two RBIs for the Rockets.

“We did a nice job of battling back after a rough start against Prentice,” Spencer coach Jason Gorst said. “Marisa Johnson did a nice job pitching to pick up her first career win.

“We had some ups and downs against Rib Lake, but I was impressed with our mental toughness. We bounced back from a few mental mistakes. Heidi Guenther really gutted it out and got stronger as the game went on.”

Spencer (14-5) hosts Owen-Withee on Monday and plays a doubleheader at Marshfield Columbus Catholic (Marshfield Fairgrounds) on Tuesday.
