SPENCER – Spencer scored 11 runs in the first inning and Tynae Phillips tossed a two-hitter as the Rockets cruised to a 22-3 win over Owen-Withee on Monday in Cloverbelt Conference East Division softball action at SPREC Field.
After the big first innings, Spencer added five more runs in the second innings and finished the game with a six-run fifth inning to more its record to 15-5 overall and 9-4 in the conference. Owen-Withee drops to 2-10 and 2-9 in the Cloverbelt East.
All three runs given up by Phillips were unearned. She had five strikeouts and five walks in the five-inning, two-hit effort.
Brooke Kettleborough and Phillips each had three hits, with Phillips smacking a home run and driving in three runs. Kettleborough had a pair of doubles and five RBIs.
Krystal Weier added two hits, two RBIs and scored three times, and Dani Johnson had a pair of singles and three runs scored for the Rockets.
“Tynae had a big night tonight to get out of a bit of a slump,” Spencer coach Jason Gorst said. “She pitched very well and controlled the ball in the zone. She also had a big night with the bat with a home run and a double off the fence. I am pretty pleased with her determination.”
Spencer plays a doubleheader at Marshfield Columbus Catholic in Tuesday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.
