WAUSAU – The No. 3 doubles team of Tanner Hayes and Zach Ott took first place for Marshfield at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Tennis Meet on Thursday at Wausau East and West high schools.
Hayes and Ott defeated Brady Becker and Jake Klug of Wausau East to claim the Tigers’ lone WVC title.
Marshfield finished third in the tournament, one point behind East, and ended up second in the overall conference standings with 74 points.
Stevens Point on all four singles flights and the tournament and overall Wisconsin Valley Conference championships.
Marshfield also had a pair or runner-up finishes, with Jason Stone taking second at No.2 singles and Jacob Limmex finishing second at No. 4 singles.
Jack Haessly finished third at No. 3 singles, and the No. 1 doubles team of Dan Bargender and Bryce Gadke, and the No. 2 doubles team of Kohl VanOudenhoven and Quinn VanOudenhoven also finished third for Marshfield.
The Tigers will participate in the WIAA Division 1 subsectional on Monday at Stevens Point and will host the Division 1 sectional meet next Wednesday.
