WAUSAU – The Marshfield boys golf team finished third Friday to end up third overall for the season as the Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament concluded at Greenwood Hills Country Club.
The Tigers shot a 342 Friday to edge Wisconsin Rapids by four strokes for third place. Stevens Point completed the sweep of the seven conference meets, winning with a score of 305, 24 shots ahead of second-place D.C. Everest, to take the WVC championship.
Ryan Hofmeister of Stevens Point, Alex Schremp of Wausau East and James McDonald of Stevens Point tied for medalist honors with 74s. Hofmeister won the individual conference title, with last year’s champion, Matt Sandquist of Wausau West, taking second.
On Friday, Kyle Hoffman was the lone Marshfield golfer to earn points, tying for sixth with three other golfers with a 79. Michael Josephson had an 87, Josh Berres and Craig Serchen had 88s, and Brandon Brown struggled to a 97 for Marshfield.
Hoffman ended up as the Tigers’ top individual for the tournament, finishing in 12th. Serchen was 14th, Josephson 15th, Berres 16th and Brown 20th in the final overall standings.
Marshfield will play at the WIAA Division 1 regional meet Tuesday at Bass Lake Country Club in Antigo.
