MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys golf team hoped to take advantage of some home cooking in the WIAA Division 1 sectional meet at its home course of Riveredge Golf Course.
However, the Tigers shot only a 357 and finished sixth in the team standings on Tuessday. Kyle Hoffman was Marshfield’s top finisher with a 12-over par 84.
Superior (331) and River Falls (337) qualified as teams for the state meet. River Falls’ Garrett Loomis was the sectional champion with a 78, edging Chris Rochon of Superior and Matt Sandquist of Wausau West by one.
Sandquist, Wausau East’s Alex Schremp (80) and Nate Webb (81) of Eau Claire Memorial qualified individually for the WIAA State Boys Golf Championships, which will be held Monday and Tuesday, June 4-5, at University Ridge Golf Club in Verona. Webb defeated Hudson’s Ben Lewis on the first hole of a sudden death playoff to earn the final of the three non-team spots at state.
