WISCONSIN DELLS – A number of area high school seniors competed in the annual Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association state all-star games on June 17-18 at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells.
Marshfield’s Taylor Varsho competed in the Division 1 girls game, while the Tigers’ Elliot Ashbeck played in the Division 1 boys game, and Stratford’s Derek Austin and Auburndale’s Markus Kleifgen participated in the Division 4 boys game.
This was the first year the games were held in Wisconsin Dells and the players were treated to the Tommy Bartlett Water Show, a lunch boat ride, activities at the Great Wolf Lodge and Buffalo Phil’s, and a banquet at the Kalahari Resort.
Varsho, a Colorado State recruit who leaves Marshfield as the program’s all-time leading scorer, had five 3-pointers and a game-high 19 points for the North team in a 65-59 loss.
Ashbeck was 4-for-5 from the field and scored 10 points – one of eight North players in double figures – to help the North to a 98-64 victory over the South.
Kleifgen finished second on the North team with 10 points and nine rebounds, and Austin scored six points and five rebounds, but the South team prevailed 82-64.
