WAUSAU – Jake Long struck out eight in five innings and Sam Arnott had three hits and scored three times to lead the Marshfield Chaparrals to a 9-4 win over the Wausau Riverhawks in amateur baseball action Saturday afternoon at Wausau West High School.
The Chaparrals (10-4) scored twice in the first inning, four more times in the third and added three runs in the fourth to open up a 9-0 lead before Wausau got on the board with three in the bottom of the fifth.
Long gave up three unearned runs and six hits, and didn’t walk a batter in five innings. Gunnar Smith tossed three innings of relief and Kenny Chiu allowed a run in the ninth.
Ryan Williams had three RBIs and Eric Pritzl added a hit, two RBIs and a run scored for the Chaparrals.
Marshfield hosts Wausau on Wednesday.
