MINOCQUA – Cale Zuiker drained seven 3-pointers, six in the second half, and finished with a season-high 29 points in Marshfield’s 59-46 victory over Lakeland in a nonconference boys basketball game Tuesday at Lakeland High School.
Zuiker’s seven 3-pointers were one off the school record of eight set by Joe Imhoff in the 1992-93 season and Ryan Danczak two years ago.
Marshfield completes its regular season at 17-5. The 17 wins is the second most in school history, equaling the Tigers’ total in coach Craig Michaelis’ first season in 2002-03. Marshfield also had 17 wins in 1952-53 and 1973-74.
Marshfield has a chance to equal the most wins in school history – 18 in 1961-62 – with one more win. The Tigers open WIAA Division 1 playoff action Tuesday at home against Chippewa Falls.
Marshfield pulled out to a 12-4 lead after the first quarter and pushed it to 41-26 after a 20-13 third-quarter surge.
Danczak added eight points, and Jake Scheppler and Sully Luepke each scored six for the Tigers.
Ross Trottier led Lakeland (8-13) with 15 points.
