MARSHFIELD – A total of 54 runners participated in the 2012 Marshfield Cross Country Alumni/Intersquad Run on Saturday at Braem Park.
Current Marshfield High School runner Nolan Redetzke (10 minutes, 38 seconds) and Rebecca Voss (12:55) were the winners of the 2-mile race, which pitted current Tigers and Alumni.
The top three runners in each race were honored as medalists. Alumni Adam Steinke was second in the men’s race (10:39), falling by just one second to Redetzke. Max Tibbet was third (10:48).
Melissa Brix was second in the women’s race (13:38), with Madie Koehn (13:40) taking third.
The current Marshfield cross country runners won the men’s team title as well, 32-36, over the Alumni. There were only three female Alumni runners, so no team score was kept.
“Nolan and Max made statements today with their impressive races and earned medals in the process,” Marshfield cross country coach Dan Akin said. “Ethan Voss (fifth, 11:54) ran his first high school race and did a solid job as well. We had some gaps on our varsity and that is something that will be addressed in the next two weeks.
“We saw some good improvements from a number of girls today. The top five girls were within a minute of each other, so that is something we can work on in the next two weeks.”
Brett Roeglin was the most improved boys runner. He finished ninth in 12:28, 1:17 better than in 2011.
Laura Fischer was the most improved girls runner, taking 24th in 20:27, 1:12 better than last year.
The Marshfield cross country team opens its season with a pair of races at Wildwood Park – Sept. 1 at the Columbus Catholic Invitational, and Sept. 4 when it hosts the Marshfield Tiger Invitational.
