SPENCER – Stanley-Boyd went a perfect 5-0 and Spencer ended up 3-2 at the four-team Spencer Volleyball Invitational on Tuesday at Spencer High School.
Both of the Rockets’ loses came to champion Stanley-Boyd 2-1 after they won the first game of each match.
Spencer opened with a 2-1 win over Chippewa Falls McDonell (23-25, 25-16, 25-20) and a sweep of Pittsville (25-17, 25-17).
The Rockets then lost to Stanley-Boyd 25-18, 23-25, 25-19 before beating Pittsville again 25-22, 25-19.
Stanley-Boyd won the championship match over the Rockets 20-25, 28-26, 25-20.
Tara Matter topped Spencer with 34 kills, with Tynae Phillips and Paige Johnson each adding 31 kills.
Setter Brooke Kettleborough had a team-high 108 assists for Spencer. Defensively, Alicia Endreas had 68 digs, Marisa Johnson had 48 and Linsey Vaughan added 37, and Paige Johnson had eight blocks with Phillips and Macie Weber each adding six.
Endreas had seven aces, Marisa Johnson added six and Paige Johnson had five serving for the Rockets.
Spencer will take part in the Marathon Early Bird Invite on Saturday.
