STRATFORD – The Stratford football team wasted little time to get its 2012 season off on a high note.
The Tigers piled up 54 points in the first half as they went on to pound Phillips 69-7 in a Marawood Conference matchup Friday night at Tiger Stadium.
Eli Temanson returned a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown, and caught an 18-yard touchdown from quarterback Drew Spaeth to lead the Tigers.
Spaeth completed just four passes, but three went for touchdowns – one to Temanson, another to Nolan Bargender and a third to Travis Urlaub.
Jake Reif added another punt return for a touchdown and kicked six extra points, Michael Bargender added an interception return, and Kellen Bornbach and Davis Drews each had a rushing touchdown as Stratford cruised.
Seven Stratford runners ran for at least 13 yards, led by Urlaub’s 58 yards on only three carries. In all, Stratford ran 29 times for 201 yards.
The Tigers return to action next Thursday at Eau Claire Regis. The game will be broadcast on WOSQ-FM 92.3 radio, with pregame starting at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff at 7 p.m.
