NEILLSVILLE – Spencer/Columbus Catholic racked up 330 rushing yards and scored three early touchdowns en route to a 44-7 blasting of Neillsville in the season and Cloverbelt Conference opener for both teams on Friday night at Neillsville High School.
Charlie Mayeux ran for 118 yards on just nine carries and scored twice to lead the Rockets.
Kaleb Miller added 83 yards and two touchdowns, and Eathen Aden had 71 yards and two more scores to pace the Spencer/Columbus rushing attack that accounted for all of the team’s offensive yards.
Mayeux had a 6-yard touchdown run, Aden scampered in from 25 yards away, and Miller hit on a 1-yard score to give the Rockets a 22-0 lead after just one quarter.
All three backs each scored another touchdown in the third quarter as Spencer/Columbus put the game away.
The Rockets held Neillsville to 148 total yards and forced six turnovers (three fumbles, three interceptions), including two picks by Aden.
Spencer/Columbus plays at defending conference and WIAA Division 5 state champion Colby on Friday, Aug. 31. The game will be broadcast live on WOSQ-FM 92.3 radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff at 7 p.m.
