MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield cross country teams swept the boys and girls titles on Tuesday at the Marshfield Tiger Invitational at Wildwood Park.

Nolan Redetzke won the boys race for the Tigers in 17:10, leading five top-20 finishers for Marshfield.

Teammates Max Tibbett finished fourth in 17:44 and Adrian Kaiser was fifth in 18:02 to lift the Tigers to 47 team points, eight better than second-place Medford.

“We were impressed with Nolan’s race, especially the last 1,000 meters where he took command,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “We had two other impressive races with Max Tibbett placing fourth and Adrian Kaiser’s fifth place, and I said all along that we could place three boys in the top five.”

Luke Haas of Auburndale placed third in 17:38 as the Apaches took fifth in the team standings. Jacob Hunsberger also earned a top-20 finish, taking 17th in 19:04.

Columbus Catholic was sixth with its top four finishing in the top 40. Travis Wienke led the Dons, taking 23rd in 19:34. Teammate Jeremy Binder was 26th, five seconds behind.

Rebecca Voss led the Marshfield girls team with a third-place finish, running in 16:26. A hard charge down the final chute came up just short as Voss finished one second behind Ida Sonflaa of Chippewa Falls. Tori Winters of Flambeau easily won the meet in 16:11, 14 seconds ahead of Sonflaa.

Melissa Brix was eighth in 17:39 and McKayla Scheuer was ninth in 17:41 to help pace the Tigers.

“We showed some true team depth today with our sixth runner placing 15th overall and that is what a good team needs and I’ve said that this team has loads of potential as the season progresses,” Akin said.

Columbus Catholic had an incomplete team. Rachel Roehl topped the Dons, taking 28th in 19:02.

Auburndale took eighth in the girls team standings. Abby Bauer was fifth in 17:22 and Emma Steines placed 23rd in 18:38 to pace the Apaches.

Both Spencer teams did not have enough runners to accumulate a team score. Rudy Nieman led the Rockets boys finishing 19th in 19:09, while Paige Lawrence led the girls, taking 45th in 20:03.

Marshfield’s Leah Cherney won the girls JV race. Other medalists for the Tigers included Emily Dzikowich in second, Mai-Ty Tyler in third, Courtney Brown in fourth and Gabby Stauber fifth.

Marshfield’s top finisher in the JV boys race was Alex Gunn, who placed second.
