RIB LAKE – Auburndale bounded back from a 46-point loss to Edgar with a 21-18 win over Rib Lake/Prentice on Friday night in a Marawood Conference football game.
With the win, the Apaches improve to 2-1 overall and in the Marawood, while Rib Lake/Prentice falls to 1-2 and 1-1 in the conference.
Coming off a 52-6 loss to Edgar, the Apaches edged the Red Hawks and move into a tie for third place in the conference standings.
Auburndale trailed 12-7 at halftime and 18-13 in the fourth quarter before quarterback Blake Anderson scored on a 1-yard run and Canyon Weiler added a two-point conversion to lift the Apaches to the win.
Anerson also tossed a 66-yard touchdown pass to Wyatt Weiler and Matthew Nikolay had a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown for Auburndale’s other two scores.
Anderson completed 10 of 22 passes for 159 yards with Wyatt Weiler, Canyon Weiler and Austin Hawkins each hauling in three receptions.
Canyon Weiler added 98 yards rushing for the Apaches, who were outgained 312-278, but forced three turnovers to pull out the win.
Auburndale hosts Chequamegon (0-3, 0-2 Marawood) next Friday at Auburndale High School.
