STEVENS POINT – Luke Haas took 15th in the boys race and Abby Bauer was 18th in the boys race to lead the Auburndale cross country team Saturday at the SPASH Invitational.
Haas finished in 17:21.2 to help the Apaches boys to a 12th-place finish among the 18 teams at the meet.
Bauer ran in 16:28.4 for the Auburndale girls, which had only four runners and didn’t figure in the team standings.
“Luke ran a very good race, going out with the Division 1 runners, especially the SPASH runners, and doing a good job of sticking close to them,” Auburndale coach Jim Johnson said. “Abby ran a smart race. She did not go out too fast, and kept moving her way up and finished just behind the top small school runners.”
Stevens Point swept the top four spots to easily win the boys title, with Baraboo second. Sam Anderson won the race in 16:18.9.
SPASH also won the girls title with three top 10 finishes. Baraboo’s Mckaela Christenson was the individual champion, winning in 14:45.6.
Auburndale will complete at the Stratford Invitational on Tuesday at Tiger Stadium.
