AUBURNDALE – Tara Matter had 46 kills and Brooke Kettleborough had 99 assists to lead the Spencer volleyball team to a perfect 5-0 record and the championship at the Auburndale Invitational on Saturday at Auburndale High School.
The Rockets swept Wisconsin Rapids Assumption (25-12, 25-17), Stratford (25-16, 25-19) and Auburndale “B” (25-21, 25-13), and needed three games to beat Stevens Point Pacelli (25-15, 24-26, 16-14) before topping Auburndale 26-24, 25-22 in the championship match of the tournament.
“It was a solid day against good competition,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “We had our ups and downs, but we kept digging deep. This tourney shows how tough our regional will be with the top three teams all coming from it. Hopefully these quality wins help build the confidence of our young team.”
Paige Johnson and Marisa Johnson each added 25 kills, including eight blocks by Paige Johnson, Macie Weberhad a team-high nine blocks and Alicia Endreas had 51 digs for Spencer.
Auburndale and Stratford results and statistics were not provided.
