Luke Haas third, Abby Bauer fourth for Auburndale at Stratford Cross Country Invitational

STRATFORD – Auburndale’s Luke Haas finished third to lead three Apaches who finished in the top seven and give them a third-place finish at the Stratford Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday.

Haas finished third in 18:20.6, nearly a full minute behind second-place Steven Studinski of Marathon (17:21.8) and 1:10 behind winner Andrew Studinski, also of Marathon (17:10.7).

Jacob Hunsberger finished fifth in 19:24.3 and Lane Schuld was seventh in 19:39.0 as the Apaches finshed third behind Marathon and Colby. Stratford finished fifth and Spencer was sixth in the boys standings.

Spencer’s Rudy Nieman finished ninth in 19:45.6 and Mark Wenzel topped Stratford with an 18th-place finish in 20:30.6.

Colby won the girls meet, with Mosinee second, Stratford fifth and Auburndale sixth. Spencer only had four runners and didn’t complete a team score.

Haley Joosten of Wisconsin Rapids Assumption won the girls race in 16:21, 10 seconds ahead of Colby’s Amanda Kaiser.

Abby Bauer of Auburndale was fourth in 17:11.2, edging Stratford’s Nadia King (17:21.4).

Stratford’s Dani Bender also had a strong finish, taking 11th in 17:30.1.

Paige Lawrence topped Spencer, taking 28th in 19:05.6.

All three local teams will be competing at the Smiley Invitational at the American Legion Golf Course in Wausau on Saturday.
