EDGAR – Edgar won the battle of Marawood Conference football unbeatens, downing Stratford 11-8 in an overtime thriller Friday night at Edgar High School.
Stratford’s Nolan Bargender returned a blocked field goal 78 yards for a touchdown with just under 4 minutes to go and the Tigers converted a two-point conversion to tie the game at 8-8, with it eventually going to overtime.
Edgar’s Kaleb Wolf kicked a 28-yard field goal on its opening possession, then Dalton Schroeder picked off a pass in the end zone to end the game.
Edgar improves to 5-0 overall and in the Marawood Conference.
Stratford falls to 3-2 and 3-1 in the Marawood with the loss, needing one win in its final three games to clinch a WIAA playoff berth.
Edgar held Stratford to just 69 yards of offense and seven first downs.
The Wildcats only had 168 yards of offense and Stratford kept them out of the end zone for the rest of the game following a first-quarter touchdown pass from Tyler Kirsch to Phillip Lemmer.
The Tigers play at Chequamegon next Friday.
