Marshfield freshman Nadeen Lieberman takes third at WIAA Division 1 girls sectional, qualifies for state

WAUSAU – Nadeen Lieberman became the first freshman in the history of the Marshfield girls tennis program to qualify for the WIAA State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament at No. 1 singles by virtue of her third-place finish Wednesday at the WIAA Division 1 sectional at Wausau East High School.

Lieberman (16-8) defeated Kelsie Hines of Hudson 6-2, 6-2, before dropping her second match to Sydney Wolfe of Eau Claire Memorial.

Lieberman rebounded by beating Sara Wallace of Chippewa Falls 6-2, 6-2, in the third-place match.

The Tigers’ No. 3 doubles team of Olivia Haessly and Emily Seidel also placed third. The duo lost to Becca Schaefer and Maddie Carmody of Eau Claire Memorial before beating Shannon Peper and Emma Meisner of New Richmond 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, in the third-place match.

Haessly and Seidel end the season with a 16-9 record.
No. 3 teams do not qualify for the state meet.

Lieberman will play in the state tournament Oct. 11-13 at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.

Eau Claire Memorial won the sectional team title with 50 points and advances to the WIAA State Team Girls Tennis Tournament in Madison on Oct. 19-20. Stevens Point was a distant second with 21 points.
