MENASHA – Last week the Marshfield football team clinched a playoff spot. Next week, the Tigers will play for the Valley Football Association South Division title.
This week, Marshfield may have looked past its opponent and fell in a typical trap game as it lost big to Menasha 42-7 on Friday night at Calder Stadium.
Menasha dominated the game up front, outgaining the Tigers 299-45 and sacked Marshfield quarterback Bo Howard multiple times as the Tigers could get nothing going.
Marshfield was held to just two first downs, 35 yards rushing and 10 yards passing on only two completions. Without a 67-yard touchdown run by Keiron Howlett late in the third quarter, the Tigers could have been held to negative yards.
Josh Menner rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns and quarterback Tyler Korth had three rushing touchdowns for Menasha, which clinched a playoff spot and improved to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the VFA South.
Marshfield falls to 6-1 and 5-1 in the conference, but will play Stevens Point next week for a chance to grab a share of the VFA South championship. Stevens Point remained unbeaten at 7-0 and 6-0 in the conference with a narrow 21-19 win over Wisconsin Rapids on Friday.
Marshfield and SPASH will play at 7 p.m. next Friday at Beell Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on WDLB-AM 1450 and on wdlbwosq.com, with pregame starting at 6:30 p.m.
