Marshfield volleyball sweeps two matches at second Wisconsin Valley Conference tournament

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield volleyball team bounced back from a tough loss to Merrill by sweeping Wausau East and Wausau West at the second Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament of the season on Saturday at Marshfield High School.

Marshfield beat East 25-14, 25-14, 25-14, and West 25-14, 25-14, 25-12, to improve to 8-2 on the season in the WVC.

Merrill, which beat the Tigers 3-2 in a dual on Thursday, went 3-0 at the tournament, beating Wausau West, D.C. Everest and Stevens Point – all 3-0 – to improve to 10-1 clinch at least a tie for the conference championship.

Marshfield plays at Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday and hosts D.C. Everest on Thursday, while Merrill finishes its season Thursday at Wausau East.

“I’m proud of the girls for bouncing back after Merrill with two dominating wins,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “It was nice to see all of our hitters step up and make these wins a total team effort.

“Darian Molter had a really good day as well. She had a lot of nice saves and served extremely tough today.”

Tiffany Stargardt and Courtney Bauer each had 17 kills, and Mikala Sebastian added 16 kills to lead the Tigers’ frontline. Molter had 20 digs and six aces, Stargardt had 14 digs, Chelsea Akin led the team with seven aces and setter Tori Nanstad contributed 59 assists for Marshfield.
