WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield and Auburndale cross country teams got a sneak preview of the course that will be used for the WIAA State Cross Country Championships at the end of the month when the two teams ran at the Wisconsin Rapids Invitational on Saturday at the Ridges Golf Course.
The Marshfield boys got a fifth-place performance from junior Nolan Redetzke (16:26) and took sixth, while the girls placed seventh in the team standings.
Auburndale was 16th in the boys and 14th in the girls standings.
Adrian Kaiser finished 28th in 17:23 to help the cause for the Marshfield boys.
“The boys came through with several very impressive races today against some quality competition,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “Nolan ran a great race today and continued his outstanding season. Our times were simply outstanding on this course today, despite the cold weather. This is exactly what we were looking for from the boys heading into the middle of October.”
Luke Haas finished 29th in 17:28 for the Auburndale boys. All of the other Apaches runners finished outside the top 100.
Rebecca Voss again led the Tigers girls, finishing 22nd in 16:05 and Ashley Holubuts took 36th in 16:29.
Auburndale’s Abby Bauer was 50th in 16:47 to lead her team.
“I am pleased with how we ran today, particularly the two and three runners on both the girls and boys teams really stepped it up and closed the gap on our No. 1 runners,” Auburndale coach Jim Johnson said.
Auburndale and Marshfield will compete in its respective conference meets at Nine-Mile Forest in Rib Mountain this week.
Auburndale will be at the Marawood Conference Meet on Thursday, while Marshfield will run at Nine-Mile on Saturday at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Meet.
Both teams also return to Nine-Mile the following week for sectionals. Auburndale will be in the Division 3 meet on Oct. 19, while Marshfield competes in the Division 1 meet on Oct. 20.
