CHIPPEWA FALLS – Marshfield boys swimming coach Faye Egger is excited about the season, and despite finishing eighth out of nine teams Saturday at the Chippewa Falls Invitational, she said she was pleased with the Tigers’ individual performances.
Chippewa Falls won the meet with 286.5 points, edging Wausau East (258.5) and Holmen/Onalaska (223.5). Marshfield was eighth with 54.5 points.
Marshfield had a fifth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay and a seventh-place finish in the 200 medley relay for its top performances.
Individually, Denver Anderson took eighth in the 50 freestyle (25.07), Matt Brown was 10th in the same race in 25.66 and Zach Korth finished ninth in 100 breastroke (1:18.98) for the Tigers’ top finishes.
“Our numbers are super great again this year with 39 guys out for the team,” Egger said. “After graduating 19 seniors last year, we expect a period of rebuilding. The new young athletes we have out this year are very athletic and are catching on well.
“These young men, along with the talent from last year in Nolan Hall, Evan Schneider, Jack Gellerman, Mat Brown and Denver Anderson to name only a few, will prove to be a strong team. Our swims today all were improved swims, including many personal best times over last year.
Marshfield returns to action with a dual meet at Stevens Point on Thursday.
