LA CROSSE – Marshfield sophomores Caitlin Michaelis and Ellie Kummer each scored in double figures to lead the Tigers girls basketball team to a 45-28 nonconference win at La Crosse Central on Tuesday night.
Michaelis had 13 points and Kummer added 11 to push the Tigers to their second straight win to start the season. Tiffany Stargardt added nine points and 12 rebounds, including four offensive boards.
Marshfield led 24-15 at halftime after a 12-6 advantage in the second quarter and took complete control in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Red Raiders 10-3.
“We just have to continue to get better,” Marshfield coach Heidi Michaelis said. “No matter what type of defense that we are facing, we have to do a better job of taking care of the ball.”
Marshfield opens its Wisconsin Valley Conference and home schedule on Friday against Wausau West.
