Huge second half propels Auburndale boys basketball past Edgar

EDGAR – Four Auburndale players scored in double figures and the Apaches outscored Edgar 40-18 in the second half to win a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game 66-39 on Tuesday night at Edgar High School.

Austin Hawkins had 18 points to lead the Apaches, who improve to 3-0 and 2-0 in the Marawood South. Zach Staats made all five of his field goal attempt and had 11 points, and Matt Nikolay and Ben Bolder each scored 10 for Auburndale.

The Apaches were again efficient on offense, making 25 of 47 shots from the field. Nikolay was 3 of 4 from 3-point range.

Isaac Castellano added seven points and seven assists, and Hawkins had a team-high six rebounds for Auburndale.

The Apaches led 26-21 at halftime before exploding in the second half for 40 points.

Caden Untiedt led Edgar (1-2, 0-2 Marawood South) with 18 points and five rebounds.

Auburndale plays at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Friday.
