STRATFORD – Hannah Schmitt scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Stratford made 19 of 28 free throws to beat Edgar 50-48 in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Thursday night at Stratford High School.
Brooke Schultze added 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Carrie Stroetz had 13 points and nine boards to lift the Tigers to their first Marawood win. Stratford improves to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while Edgar drops to 1-3 and 0-2 in the Marawood South.
Stratford used a 19-7 second quarter to take a 26-19 halftime lead before Edgar stormed back and grabbed a 32-31 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
The Tigers were just 16 of 56 from the field, but the 19 free throws and a 44-27 advantage on the boards kept them in the game.
Holly Denfeld led Edgar with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Stratford plays at Wausau Newman Catholic on Tuesday.
