Owen-Withee hands Spencer boys basketball team third loss in a row

OWEN – Spencer jumped out to an early lead but a big second quarter helped Owen-Withee overcome it and push to a 62-48 win in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball game Friday night at Owen-Withee High School.

Spencer led 14-9 after one quarter, but the Blackhawks outscored the Rockets 23-13 in the second quarter and by nine in the second half to pull away.

Al Goerlitz had 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Austin Milliren added 19 points and six steals to lead Owen-Withee (3-3, 3-2 Cloverbelt East). Goerlitz made 8 of 11 from the free-throw line as O-W outscored Spencer 14-2 at the line.

Mitchell Susa led Spencer with 12 points. The Rockets shot just 41 percent (19 of 46) and was hurt by their 2-for-8 shooting from the free-throw line.

Spencer (2-3 overall and Cloverbelt East) hosts Granton on Tuesday.
