AUBURNDALE – Auburndale hung close with the defending WIAA Division 4 state champions for a half, but couldn’t score in the second half and dropped a 47-26 decision to Neillsville in a nonconference girls basketball game Monday night at Auburndale High School.
Neillsville, ranked No. 2 in Division 3 in last week’s WisSports.net State Coaches Poll, led 17-16 at halftime, then poured it on with a 30-10 advantage in the second half to improve to 7-0. Auburndale lost its second straight game and drops to 4-2.
The big push came in the third quarter, where the Warriors outscored the Apaches 22-5.
Jenny Lindner had 17 points for Neillsville, which had four players account for all of its points. The Warriors had seven 3-pointers, three by Lindsey Opelt.
Mikayla Jankowski scored nine points to top Auburndale.
Auburndale hosts Stratford on Thursday.
