MARSHFIELD – Marshfield poured on six goals in the third period to bust open a tie game and ripped off a 7-1 win over the Oshkosh Ice Hawks in a game at the Marshfield Boys Hockey Tournament on Thursday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice and Recreation Arena.
Marshfield improves to 3-8 with the win, while Oshkosh drops to 2-7 after suffering its fifth straight loss.
Antigo defeated Stevens Point Pacelli 2-1 in the other first-round matchup Thursday.
The round-robin tournament continues Friday with four games. Antigo plays Marshfield at 10 a.m., followed by Oshkosh vs. Stevens Point Pacelli at 12:30 p.m., Antigo against Oshkosh at 4:30 p.m. and Marshfield vs. Pacelli at 7 p.m.
Zach Leggon scored a goal late in the second period to open the scoring only to see Austin Eiler score for Oshkosh in the final minute of the period to knot the score at 1-1.
From there, the Tigers dominated. Leggon scored three more times and the Tigers also got goals from Bo Howard, Cole Irish and Jake Andreae put the victory away.
Brad Krueger had 34 saves in goal for Marshfield.
