WAUSAU – The Marshfield girls basketball team grabbed its first Wisconsin Valley Conference win, dominating Wausau East 62-38 on Friday night at East High School.
The Tigers won their second game in a row and improve to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the WVC. East drops to 2-8 and 0-4 in the Valley.
Marshfield hosts Waunakee in a nonconference game Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and will play at Stevens Point in a girls-boys doubleheader on Tuesday. The girls game starts at 6 p.m. with the boys game to follow at 7:45 p.m. Saturday’s game and both games Tuesday will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and online at wdlbwosq.com.
Caitlin Michaelis had 16 points and Ellie Kummer had 13 points and five steals – both hit three 3-pointers – to top Marshfield.
Makayla Zimmerman added 15 points and Ellie Fehrenbach had nine points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers.
Marshfield shot 48 percent (23 of 48) from the field and held a 25-20 rebounds advantage. Wausau East was held to 31 percent shooting (11 of 35).
