HOLMEN – The Marshfield girls basketball team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end with a 83-79 double-overtime loss to Waunakee in a nonconference game Saturday afternoon at the Marshfield High School Fieldhouse.
Marshfield falls to 5-4 with the loss, while Waunakee moves to 7-4.
Ellie Kummer had a season-high 23 points, making 5 of 16 3-pointers. Darian Molter also scored a season-high, totaling 21 points. Ellie Fehrenbach added 11 points and nine rebounds and Makayla Zimmerman continued her solid offensive play of late with 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting for the Tigers.
Marshfield held a 40-33 rebounding advantage, but had 28 turnovers compared to 19 for Wauankee, and had 29 fouls, which led to 26 of 43 shooting from the free-throw line by the Warriors. Marshfield was just 11 of 17 on free throws.
The Tigers trailed 45-34 entering the fourth quarter where they outscored Waunakee 30-19 to force overtime.
Samantha Murray led the Warriors with 27 points, making 17 of 24 free throws to account for most of her points.
Marshfield will be back in action Tuesday at Stevens Point as part of a girls-boys doubleheader. The girls game starts at 6 p.m., with the boys to follow at 7:45 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and online at wdlbwosq.com.
