PITTSVILLE – Steve Marquardt won a 6-0 decision over Adam Sturgis in the final match to lift the Stratford wrestling team to a dramatic 30-28 win over Pittsville in a Marawood Conference dual meet Thursday night at Pittsville High School.
The Tigers trailed 28-27 after Ed Kleinhenz of Pittsville beat R.J. Schiller 8-2 in the 138-pound match, setting up a winner-take-all final match.
Marquardt scored four points on a takedown and nearfall in the first period and held on the rest of the way for a 6-0 win in the 145-pound match to earn the win for Stratford.
Stratford was helped by three forfeit wins and victories by Dondrick Tackes (195), Hunter Kauffman (220) and Phil Sersch (120).
Stratford hosts Spencer, Elcho and Northwood in a triple-dual meet on Friday. The first match starts at 5:30 p.m.
