Auburndale girls basketball knocks off Prentice

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale girls basketball team extended a two-point halftime lead in the second half and went on to defeat Prentice 50-38 in a nonconference game Friday night at Auburndale High School.

The Apaches led 21-19 at the half before outscoring Prentice 10-5 in the third quarter and 19-14 in the fourth.

Nicole Nikolay led three Auburndale players in double figures with 16 points. Emma Steines added 13 and Shannon Yahnke had 10 for the Apaches (7-4).

Nikolay added eight rebounds and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line for Auburndale.

The Apaches had a nonconference game at Iola-Scandinavia on Tuesday and return to Marawood Conference South Division action next Thursday at Edgar. The Apaches are 5-1, one-half game behind Wisconsin Rapids Assumption (5-0) in the Marawood South standings.
