Spencer girls basketball edges Marshfield Columbus Catholic

SPENCER – The Spencer girls basketball team grabbed its second one-point win in a week as it edged Marshfield Columbus Catholic 37-36 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Thursday night at Spencer High School.

Tara Matter drilled a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left to provide the Rockets with the winning margin.

The Rockets, who beat Colby 31-30 last Friday, improve to 7-5 overall with their third straight win. Spencer is now 4-5 in the Cloverbelt East, tied with Columbus Catholic (6-6 overall) after earning a split in the season series.

Matter had 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead Spencer, which held a 31-18 rebounding advantage.

Elizabeth Manlick had 18 points to top the Dons.

Columbus hosts Loyal and Spencer plays at Granton as both teams return to action next Tuesday.
