Auburndale girls basketball wins fifth straight, knocks off Edgar

EDGAR – The Auburndale girls basketball team won its fifth straight game downing Edgar 39-21 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Thursday at Edgar High School.

The Apaches are now one-half game behind Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in the Marawood South standings at 6-1. Assumption is 6-0. The two teams meet Tuesday at Assumption.

Auburndale is now 9-4 overall after its fifth straight victory.

Edgar falls to 4-8 and 2-5 in the Marawood South.

Auburndale trailed 19-15 at halftime before turning up the defensive pressure in the second half.

The Apaches outscored Edgar 8-2 in the third quarter and 16-0 in a dominating fourth quarter to finish off the victory.

Shannon Yahnke had 15 points and Nicole Nikolay had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Apaches.
