Stratford boys basketball finish strong to upend Marathon

STRATFORD – Stratford outscored Marathon 14-4 in the fourth quarter to pull off a 42-40 upset of Marathon in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Friday night at Stratford High School.

With the win, Stratford pulls to 9-5 overall and 4-5 in the Marawood South, while knocking Marathon two games behind first-place Auburndale in the standings. The Raiders fall to 13-2 and 8-2 in the conference.

Jake Reif scored 14 points and Nolan Bargender had six points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers.

Stratford led 12-4 after one quarter and 21-16 at halftime before the Raiders exploded for a 20-7 advantage in the third quarter and led 36-28 entering the fourth.

Collin Seubert scored 14 points to lead Marathon.

Stratford returns to action Monday with a nonconference game against Abbotsford.
