MARSHFIELD – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball team pulled away late to knock off UW-Waukesha 77-67 on Saturday in a battle of the top two teams in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference.
The win is the Marauders’ 12th in a row and they improve to 16-2 overall and 14-1 in the WCC.
Brynn Salava had 19 points and 10 rebounds, Corrine Meacham also scored 19 points, and Kaitlynn Mefferd had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Marshfield.
The Marauders led 39-29 at halftime, but Waukesha started the second half with a 15-3 run and led 44-42 5 minutes in.
Marshfield coach Rhonda Keding said the game went back and forth until the last 3 minutes, when the Marauders pulled away.
“I knew this was going to be a great game – we are both great teams – and both teams played well,” Keding said. “I keep telling these girls we need to play our game. The girls did a great job of holding in there and pulling out the ‘W’.”
The Marauders are off until next Saturday when they play at UW-Washington County in West Bend.
