Stratford boys basketball edges Wausau Newman Catholic

WAUSAU – Jake Reif hit three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Stratford boys basketball team to a narrow 38-37 win over Wausau Newman Catholic on Friday night at Newman Catholic High School.

The Tigers improve to 12-5 overall and 6-5 in the Marawood Conference South Division, moving two games ahead of Newman for fourth place in the conference. Newman falls to 6-11 and 4-7 in the Marawood South.

Travis Urlaub and Nolan Bargender each added 10 points, and Greg Belter pulled down 10 rebounds for Stratford.

Nate Prososki had 14 points to top the Cardinals.

Stratford plays a nonconference game at Whitehall on Monday and returns to Marawood South action next Thursday at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.
