WAUPACA – Kaylee Geiger and Nell Eichten scored the game’s final two goals, lifting the Marshfield girls hockey team to a 4-2 win over Waupaca in a Great Northern Conference girls hockey game Friday.
The win helps the Tigers keep their place on top of the GNC at 10-1-1 (13-6-1 overall). Marshfield remains one-half game ahead of Northland Pines for first place in the conference with two games remaining. Marshfield hosts Lakeland on Monday and wraps up its regular-season schedule next Friday at Medford.
Paige Johnson scored in the first period and Kessa Schreiner added a goal 44 seconds into the second to give Marshfield a 2-1 lead.
After Waupaca’s Tasha Smith tied the game with her second goal, Geiger put the Tigers back on top with a goal with 2:07 left in the second period.
Eichten finished off the win with a goal midway through the third.
Alexis Straughan had 15 saves in goal for Marshfield, which outshot Waupaca 47-17.
