WAUSAU – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County basketball teams swept again, both beating UW-Marathon County on Wednesday night.

The Marauders men topped Marathon County 68-56, while the women rolled to its 15th straight win with an 80-35 rout.

The UW-Marshfield/Wood County men held Marathon County to 13 points in the first half, opening up a 25-13 lead, and held on in a high-scoring second half.

Jesse Bejcek had 14 points to lead the Marauders (16-4 overall, 7-1 Wisconsin Collegiate Conference). The loss is Marathon County’s first in the WCC and it falls to 11-6 and 8-1 in the conference.

Five Marauders scored in double figures as the women’s team cruised.

Mckenzie Trunkel scored 24 points, Brynn Salava had 18 points, 13 rebounds and eight steals, Kaitlynn Mefferd and Heather Adrian each scored 11 points, and Corrine Meacham chipped in 10 for Marshfield (19-2 overall).

“Our defense was outstanding tonight holding both of their shooters to just 11 points each,” Marauders women’s coach Rhonda Keding said. “When we can do that, that helps our offense to get going. We out rebounded them 65-27 and that’s one thing that we are lacking, so I’m glad that’s coming around.”

Both UW-M/WC teams will play in a women’s-men’s doubleheader Saturday at home against UW-Rock County. The women’s game starts at 1 p.m., with the men to follow at approximately 3 p.m. This is the final regular-season game of the men’s season.

The women’s team finishes its regular season Monday at home against UW-Marinette.

The WCC playoffs start Feb. 16.
